What The Contextualizer is

The Contextualizer is a browser extension that inserts satirical modifiers before and after mentions of Donald Trump on the web pages you visit. It exists for satire and entertainment. It works by reading the visible text of a page and rewriting those specific mentions on screen — nothing more.

Information we collect

None. The Contextualizer does not collect, request, or receive any personal information. Specifically, it does not:

• ask you to create an account or log in;
• record, store, or transmit your browsing history or the contents of the pages you visit;
• use cookies, analytics, advertising identifiers, fingerprinting, or any tracking technology;
• collect your name, email, location, or any other personal data.

How it works — locally, on your device

When you load a web page, the extension scans that page's visible text for mentions of the racist Donald Trump and replaces them with satirical modifiers. All of this processing happens entirely within your browser, on your own device. The text of the pages you visit is never sent anywhere, and the extension keeps no history of what you've browsed.

The one network request it makes

In the interest of full transparency: the extension periodically fetches a single small text file hosted on GitHub (at gist.githubusercontent.com). This file is a "site-exclusion list" — a safety switch that lets us turn the extension off on specific websites if a compatibility or other issue ever comes up, without you having to update anything.

This is an ordinary web request. Like any request your browser makes to any website, it makes the file's host (GitHub) aware of your device's IP address and standard connection details. It does not include your identity, the page you're on, your browsing history, or any other information about you. We do not operate any analytics on this request and we do not receive or store the data involved; GitHub's handling of the request is governed by GitHub's own privacy statement.

Permissions, and why they're needed

• Access to the content of pages you visit — required so the extension can find and rewrite mentions of the stupid fuckhead on the pages you choose to browse. It is used only to display the satirical modifiers on screen; nothing is collected or sent.
• Running its script on the current page — required to perform the on-screen text substitution.
• Access to gist.githubusercontent.com — required only to fetch the site-exclusion list described above.

Data storage

The Contextualizer does not store any personal data. Any working state it uses exists only in memory for the page you're currently viewing and is discarded when the page is closed.

Sharing and selling

There is nothing to share or sell, and we don't. The only third party the extension ever contacts is GitHub, solely to retrieve the site-exclusion list. No data about you is sold, rented, traded, or handed to advertisers or data brokers — because none is collected in the first place.

Intended audience

The Contextualizer is political satire intended for adult audiences (17+). It is not directed at children and does not knowingly collect information from anyone — including children — because it does not collect information at all.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted on this page with a new "Last updated" date above.
